The LA Herbalist Collective came together during Spring 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our mutual aid project is operating within the context of an ongoing public health crisis and the escalating crisis of state violence enacted through the law enforcement genocide of Black people. Our work is in response to the disproportionate burden being placed on individuals to survive. We provide herbal support to our most *vulnerated community members: frontline activists and organizers, unsheltered folks, and healthcare workers across Los Angeles, indigenous lands of the Gabrielino Tongva, Chumash, and San Fernandeño Tataviam Nations. We work in service of indigenous sovereignty and black liberation. We transmute our outrage and grief into the work we do and the care we offer the community with our herbal medicine. There are 12 individuals in our collective and we are all working towards community resilience and interconnectedness. Within the collective we have herbalists that offer clinical and community based support, energetic practitioners, gardeners, trained facilitators, grassroots organizers, alchemists, artists, and writers.
